MARCH NEWS 2022
The winter refit continues for FORTINET-BEST WESTERN. Having been completely stripped back, our IMOCA is currently being painted and our team’s starting to reassemble all the various elements of deck hardware on the boat. |
FORTINET-BEST WESTERN is getting a makeover thanks to a brand-new paint job, so she can glide through this 2022 season in style! In the end, we managed to make a total weight saving of 120 kg on the boat after sanding her right back to the laminate. The deck has been revamped and we’re currently painting the hull. On top of that, all the pieces of deck hardware (winches, blocks, cleats…) have been carefully dismantled, checked and greased and are now gradually being reassembled by our shore team. We plan to relaunch her and step the mast on Monday 25 April, so we’re up and running to host Francis Cabrel, a popular French singer-songwriter, on 4 May and then set sail on our Tour of Europe on 6 May, so we can meet and greet Fortinet’s clients and associates. |

MEETING THE MOUNTAINEERS!
Our skipper headed over to Vallouise-Pelvoux in the Hautes-Alpes department of France from 11 to 13 March to participate in the renowned “De la montagne à la mer” clashes, an event traditionally known as the “Trophée Mer/Montagne”; an absolute must for Romain for what is some 20 years already!
This meeting involves sailors and mountaineers coming together within the context of outdoor sports. About fifteen top-level athletes get the chance to share some real quality time downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or ski touring.
An excellent competitive workout for our sailor and a great opportunity to hook up with mountaineering friends like Daniel Dulac, world ice climbing champion and patron of Romain’s boat in 2003!
