GREGORY GENDRON, CO-SKIPPER POUR LA ROLEX FASTNET RACE
Pour la première course en double de la saison, Romain sera accompagné de Gregory Gendron. Marin discret, ‘Greg’ est bien connu du monde de la course au large et un équipier recherché notamment pour les tours du monde en équipage en multicoques.
Tombé dans la voile dès sa plus tendre enfance, Greg a tiré ses premiers bords sur le bateau familial avant de faire ses gammes en optimist, laser, 420… Il rejoint ensuite le Tour de France à la Voile où il prend la barre de l’équipage jeune Nantes – St Nazaire. Sur ce circuit, il fait la rencontre d’Antoine Koch skipper du trimaran ORMA Sopra et avec lequel il naviguera sur les dernières années de ce mythique circuit. Ensemble ils termineront cinquième de la Transat Jacques Vabre 2007. Il passe ensuite professionnel et récupère la barre d’un des deux figaros Sopra. Sur ce circuit, Greg fera la connaissance d’un certain Romain Attanasio contre lequel il disputera plusieurs courses en solo ou en double. Le partenariat Sopra terminé, Gregory se tournera à nouveau vers le multicoque en intégrant les équipes navigantes de nombreuses écuries (Gitana, Spindirift racing…). Fort de son expertise vélique qu’elle soit sur une ou trois coques, il est intègre le team Fortinet – Best Western ce mois-ci comme équipier de choix pour accompagner Romain sur la Rolex Fastnet Race.
For the first double-handed race of the season, Romain will be accompanied by Gregory Gendron. A discreet sailor, ‘Greg’ is well known in the world of offshore racing and a sought-after crew member, particularly for crewed round-the-world races in multihulls.
Fallen into sailing from his earliest childhood, Greg took his first tacks on the family boat before learning his skills in optimist, laser, 420… He then joined the Tour de France à la Voile where he took the helm of the young crew Nantes – St Nazaire. On this circuit, he met Antoine Koch skipper of the trimaran ORMA Sopra and with whom he sailed on the last years of this legendary circuit. Together they finished fifth in the 2007 Transat Jacques Vabre. He then turned professional and took over the helm of one of the two Sopra figaros. On this circuit, Greg will meet a certain Romain Attanasio against whom he will compete in several races, solo or double. With the Sopra partnership over, Gregory will once again turn to multihulls by joining the sailing teams of numerous teams (Gitana, Spindirift racing, etc.). With his sailing expertise whether on one or three hulls, he joined the Fortinet – Best Western team this month as the team member of choice to accompany Romain on the Rolex Fastnet Race.
