It’s been a little over a month since our IMOCA FORTINET-BEST WESTERN went in for refit at our new base in Lorient, Brittany, to undergo a thorough check-up and get a fresh lick of paint in readiness for what promises to be an intense 2022 season!

After a particularly gruelling first week of racing, the Romain Attanasio-Sébastien Marsset duo has managed to hold onto its ‘top 10’ spot in the IMOCA fleet. Having negotiated the Canaries passage over the weekend, Fortinet-Best Western is continuing to make headway along the African coast before plunging southwards and making for the West Indies. 

Having valiantly exited the doldrums, Fortinet-Best Western rounded the Fernando de Noronha waypoint this Sunday. Romain Attanasio and Sébastien Marsset, 8th in the IMOCA category, even treated themselves to the luxury of stealing a march on their rivals. We review a week packed with emotion before the duo set a course for the West Indies, where they’re expected to make landfall this Saturday. 

Romain Attanasio and Sébastien Marsset crossed the finish line in 7th place this Sunday in Martinique, at 04 h 37 min (08 h 37 min UTC). As a result, the two men completed the transatlantic passage in 20 days, 20 hours, 10 minutes at an average speed of 13.07 knots. The driving force in the group of outsiders for a considerable time, they notably demonstrated that Fortinet-Best Western was more than capable of playing the lead in IMOCA.

Romain Attanasio and Sébastien Marsset have kicked off the transatlantic with conviction and zeal, quickly asserting themselves in the lead group among the IMOCAs. After a bracing start and a night where sleep was scarce, they are in 3rd place in the 13:00 UTC ranking this Monday, less than 2 miles shy of 2nd place.
